Sehrish Hussain received a BBA from Ross School of Business and a BFA from Stamps School of Art and Design from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She currently studies Print Media at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Hussain’s practice draws from her personal upbringing in a Pakistani American family that exposed her to cultural and religious motifs from Islamic design and Indo-Persian textiles. Hussain primarily creates woodcuts, drawing upon the historic tradition and craft of printmaking. Blending this traditional craft with new technologies, like the use of a laser cutter, reflects the contemporary context of print media, through which she can speak to cultural tensions and nuances arising from living with hybrid identities, family history, and faith. She currently lives and works in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
